Dear Friends,
The U'wa struggle remains urgent. News Reports this morning
say that
according to the U'wa, five U'wa children died on Friday morning
when the
Colombian National Police attacked an U'wa road blockade of 450
people.
U'wa statements say that between 150 and 500 police wielding
batons,
teargas, and bulldozers, forced the U'wa to jump into a nearby
river where
at least five children drowned.
The U'wa are calling for international actions to bring attention
to their
struggle. We will hold a candle light vigil and march in the
neighborhood
of OXY CEO Ray Irani on Thursday night at 7:00. We ask that everyone
please
attend at this critical time for the U'wa.
